WELCOME!

Welcome to Adv. Sculpture and Ceramics!

I am looking forward to a great year with all of you!  It is important to remember that we are all responsible for creating a respectful learning environment.  Our goals as learners include: collaboration, creation, critical thinking and communication.  Each of you should have also created your own personal goals for Adv. Sculpture and Ceramics in accordance with the 21st Century Skills that we discussed in class.  We will be checking in periodically with your goal cards to see where your strengths and weaknesses are in class and to also plan new ways of meeting your personal goals while in Adv. Sculpture and Ceramics this year.

In Adv. Sculpture and Ceramics we will be creating various types of sculptures ( relief and free standing), using various materials like paper, cardboard, recycled books, wire and plaster!  We will continue to learn about the elements and principles of design in each of our projects to strengthen the compositions within your sculptures.  This year at the advanced level, you will be making personal choices in your selection of media with each given assignment.  You will also be more challenged to think independently and problem solve more on your own as you explore your own choices of media. Each project will include sketches and visual reference research.  Sketchbook assignments are 15% of your class grade and must be completed!  Homework is 20% of your grade and it must also be completed on time.

I am already impressed with the work that you all have begun to create this year!  Your two dimensional abstract charcoal drawings are fresh, loose and free - I want you all to challenge yourselves to carry out this freedom of expression in your upcoming projects as well! Keep up the great work!
