From Fits Function : Thematic Tea Sets
the students in Adv. Sculpture and Ceramics created tea sets based on their own chosen themes. The challenge was to create a "set"of ceramic pieces vs. their usual "one of a kind " pieces. The students' varied themes made for an interesting exhibit of work!
Wearable Art: Corrugated Cardboard Hat Designs
The students in Adv. Sculpture and Ceramics used their sculpting
skills to create wearable art to communicate a message about themselves
through the use of shape, form and texture in their fashionable
designs! Their hat designs all made bold statements as they wore them
around the classroom on critique day. The students' inspirations came
from contemporary sculptors and hat designer pieces that they researched
on their own prior to their sketching phase of the assignment.

High School Students Using Their Ceramic Skills to Teach Pre School Students
The Adv. Sculpture and Ceramic students demonstrated their artistic skills to Mrs. Barbieri's and Mrs. Coreira's Child Development Class when they created ceramic heart designs with their pre-school students!
The pre school students made two trips to the high school Sculpture and Ceramics, room C1-12, to work on clay Valentine projects . They learned about the properties of clay and the process of ceramics. It was a collaborative project that combined the teaching skills of highschool students with the learning process of preschool students. There is a beautiful article in the Cranston Herald http://www.cranstononline.com/

Line Through Time Sculptures in Progress
We began our projects with sketches regarding the theme "Line Through Time". From their we made faces out of one continuous piece of wire. We based our wire face sculpture off contour line drawings we completed in our sketchbook. After the wire face we began our final "Line Through Time" Sculptures. Students were given the opportunity to choose their own medium, including clay or wire. The students are now working hard to complete a free standing sculpture with the medium they choose to reflect, "Line Through Time".
